Class 56 & 47 - Double - Headed Railtour
Colas Rail Class 56 No. 56049 leads a Class 47 on The Slate Miner, a special railtour operating from Oxford to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Named in reference to its destination’s historic slate-mining heritage, the tour travelled along the North Wales Coast before tackling the scenic Conwy Valley Line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The working offered the unusual sight of a freight Class 56 hauling a passenger train through North Wales, making it a particularly memorable railway movement to photograph. The train is pictured passing the site of the former Bagillt railway station, which served the North Wales Coast Line from 1849 until its closure in 1966. Although the station itself is long gone, remnants of its railway heritage remain alongside the modern main line.

Avanti West Coast 805 - 805001
Avanti West Coast 805001 passes the remains of the former Bagillt railway station in North East Wales. Although little of the station remains today, the former island platform can still be traced through the foliage between the tracks. The contrast between a modern Class 805 and the remains of a station closed decades ago brings together two very different eras of the railway.

GB Railfreight Class 66s - 66765 & 66301
Class 66 No. 66765 leads fellow Class 66 No. 66301 through Mobberley while working 6E09, the loaded biomass service from Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax AES. The train carries wood pellets destined for Drax Power Station, where the biomass is used in electricity generation.
Trailing locomotive 66301 makes the working particularly distinctive, wearing a special gold livery unveiled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Drax Power Station. Combined with 66765 leading the train, the double-headed formation provided an unusual and striking sight as the lengthy biomass working passed through Mobberley on its journey across the country.

Network Rail 950 - 950001
950001 makes its final journey along the North Wales Coast, captured from an elevated pole position at Maude Street, Connah's Quay. The higher viewpoint gives a different perspective on the Network Rail test train, with the sweeping curve of the line helping frame the unit as it heads through the scene.

Transport For Wales 158 - 158837
158837 passes Maude Street, Connah's Quay, while working a Llandudno Junction to Birmingham service. Photographed from ground level, the shot uses the curve of the railway and surrounding trees to create a more traditional lineside composition, with the yellow cab standing out strongly against the greenery.

Avanti West Coast 805 - 805002
Avanti West Coast 805002 heads south from Holyhead to London Euston, photographed near Airbus at Broughton. The train is captured passing through a changing industrial landscape, with cranes and ongoing works in the foreground adding extra depth and context to the scene. The combination of the railway, construction activity and surrounding landscape gives the image a distinctive sense of place beyond a traditional lineside shot.

GBRF 66791 in 'Heidelberg' livery
GB Railfreight Class 66 No. 66791 stands at Whittington in its distinctive green Heidelberg Materials livery, attached to a rake of engineering wagons. The train was working in connection with the major engineering programme which closed the Shrewsbury–Bidston route for two weeks, allowing vital work to take place along the line.

Rail Crane
Taken from Park Hall overbridge, this view looks along the railway towards the worksite, where a large rail crane and ballast wagons are being used as part of the two-week Shrewsbury–Bidston line closure. The image captures the scale of the operation, with machinery, materials and the surrounding North Shropshire landscape all framing the ongoing upgrade work.

GBRF 66786 & 66755
GB Railfreight 66786, with 66755 on the rear, arrives at Croes Newydd beside the former Watery Road Goods Yard while working 6M42. The train conveys discharged cement tanks from Avonmouth for loading at Penyffordd, but the Shrewsbury–Bidston closure has forced it to divert via Crewe and Chester instead of its usual route through Gobowen. With 66755 attached at the rear, the service can reverse at Croes Newydd without requiring 66786 to run around the train.
